Despite its small population, you will find that this small southern town is anything but backward or “back woods.” There is much to do, see and eat and it is a wonderful place to visit as a tourist. The town is also very culturally alive and is considered a haven for artists and writers. There are many art galleries and other museums and jewelry shops. You will be sure to find something beautiful to bring home for yourself or for a friend. Whether you visit in the heat of the summer or the cold winter, the town will be bustling with creative energy as well as its rich history.

From hiking to fishing and everything in between you can spend a beautiful spring or fall day enjoying some of the wonderful wilderness in this town at one of their many parks. Practice your swing at Occoneechee Golf Club or enjoy the wilderness at Eno River State Park. This state park is very near the town center but is also secluded enough for you to really take in some fantastic nature. You can canoe, fish, camp, picnic and more at this wonderful park which has been renewed after much industry robbed the land of its trees and other ecology. Now, it is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life.
